5 tips to make your Kickstarter video stand out.

5 tips to make your Kickstarter video stand out.

Your first crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and Indiegogo is in the making, you have your project, your team, and a cool detailed description, but something's missing: a great video.

But is it really crucial to have a video on my crowdfunding page?
Yes, creating a nice and engaging video could really boost your crowdfunding campaign and raise your success rate. Mainly because people and potential backers will understand your project more, then there's a chance for your video to become viral just like it happened for my client's product Balldo, more than that it will help raise awareness and trust in your project.

Of course, crowdfunding platforms mainly focus on creative projects themselves, but a really cool video will help you stand out among a big crowd!

How to make your crowdfunding video stand out? Keep on reading to know 5 tips to create your video!

1. KEEP AN EYE ON THE VIDEO LENGHT

I'm sure that you want to showcase every little detail about your product, everyone should know how much work you put behind the creation of your masterpiece, but would you really want your video to be 15 minutes long and super specific? Trust me, you don't.

We live in a society where we want to gain more information as fast as we can, we want to be involved, engaged, and amused by video contents, and that should be of course the ingredients of your video, but shrunk in 3 to 5 minutes. Also, remember that the first 8 seconds could be decisive! In this little amount of time, people will decide whether to watch it to the end or not. So put all your story and get the important stuff out at the beginning.

With a short video, it will be much easier for people to stay tuned in: try to convey all the info in a clear and schematic way, add a bit of sparkle, some changes of scene and angle, and make it fit in a bunch of minutes to keep the attention span always up!

2. STORYTELLING IS KEY

There will be a LOT to tell about your product, and the video is the right means to do that. Make sure to focus on the storytelling, tell the story around your project and make people become passionate about it. Remember that backers love to feel part of the project, so tell the real story about what lead you to create your project and why it's important to you.

If that can help just follow these simple steps, that's the most common structure:

  • What your project is
  • Who you are? (Team or single person)
  • The story behind your project: How the idea was born? Why are you running crowdfunding?
  • Show Testimonials: possibly show relevant people talking good about your project.
  • Call to Action: Motivate users to back.

Make sure the video creates a simple and moving narrative, which will make the people feel part of the project and contribute to something that can change their lives or make them better!

3. MAKE IT CONSISTENT

Whenever people take a look at your video you want them to have a clear idea in their mind of what's your project about. Focus on making clear points and not covering everything, which can result in a miscellaneous video, that will leave people confused.

It is very common to mix different messages and audiences into a single video, but it is a mistake because trying to communicate everything to everyone is not a good idea because it will reduce the engagement of all potential backers.

Since the video will be short, the message has to be consistent: not too specific or too vague, basically, people should get what's your project, why are you creating it, and what they will get in return at a first glance.

Also, don't forget to add an effective call to action, in order to really turn curious people watching your video into potential backers. Make it clear and simple to accomplish!

4. ADDRESS TO YOUR SPECIFIC AUDIENCE

When you are already aware of your specific audience that will be much easier to develop a catchy video that triggers them, for example, you're developing a video game in which the target will most likely be young people, make sure to use catchy graphics and animations to grab their attention.

Ask yourself what's your project's ''buyer persona'' and try to imagine what they would like to see, in this way, your audience will feel like that's where they belong and they will feel like they want to be part of that project.

Try to brainstorm some ideas and make a clear point about what you want to cover in the video and who you want to impress. That will really define your project more and will make it a perfect fit for your target audience.

5. MAKE IT SHAREABLE

You need to make sure that people feel something after watching your Kickstarter video, and if that something makes them share the video on their social pages or with friends, that's even better!

Something could trigger them, will make them feel an emotion, it could make them laugh, could make them surprised or even moved. It doesn't have to be a viral video like the Balldo one (but who knows, right?), but it has to convey a message, solve a problem, bring up an issue. That will totally involve your potential backers into back your project and make their friends aware of it.

WRAPPING IT UP

Making a video on Kickstarter could really help you bring up your project and stand out among thousands of crowdfunding campaigns. There are really a lot of cool videos out there, all you have to do is add your own style to your video and make people feel involved by it.

With these 5 tips, you will have a point to start in order to create your crowdfunding video, that it's fundamental to engage the audience and to get support.

Of course, the video strategy is one of the most important aspects to take care of while launching your crowdfunding campaign, but in order to reach more people and be backed, you will need to build and apply the right pre-launch phase, that will consent you to break into the crowdfunding world already prepared with a community interested in your product.
