Thinking about running a crowdfunding campaign? Well, in order to succeed, you’re going to have to educate yourself on the best practices that set you apart from other campaigns. The right pre-launch campaign will help you to surpass your funding goal, and get you well on your way to being crowned a crowdfunding champion. I've created a free e-book about it: 3 simple steps to sucess on kickstarter and indiegogo.
One of the biggest factors that determine the level of success you’re able to achieve from your crowdfunding campaign is the pre-launch campaign. There are many people out there that decide to go out on a limb, and just post their campaign on a platform. However, this is the completely wrong way to go about things. Crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo don’t just generate all of the donations for you, what you do in your pre-launch campaign does!
Potential backers need to be driven to your campaign. In fact, the success of your crowdfunding campaign will come more from backers finding a personal connection with what you have to offer. But, where do we find the people that will fall in love with our ideas? Where do we find our backers?
After raising over $600,000 on Indiegogo, I’ve been helping hundreds of campaign owners around the world reach their goals by coaching them on how to run an adequate pre-launch campaign, in order to successfully launch a project on Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
Throughout my career, I’m asked the same question from crowd funders time and time again: ‘’how can we find funders for our projects?’’. My answer? Well, it’s always the same - how many people have you managed to collect so far? It’s shocking that so many people don’t already know this, but the easiest way is to find potential backers before launching the campaign, not during.
In short, simply because it’s going to be much more efficient and effective. You’ll spend so much less time converting users that already know who you are, rather than trying to convert new funders.
Let’s break it down with a ‘no backers’ example:
If this happens, it means that we will receive a ‘cold audience’ which implies that the cost to apply them as a backer is going to be really high, and the results overseen by the margin on Indiegogo pre-orders is going to be really low.
Now, check out this example of what happens when you find crowd funders beforehand:
The result? A higher percentage of your community are going to convert through your crowdfunding campaign page, because you would have already sold the idea through your initial advertising. This all means that the acquisition cost to convert your backers will be lower, and a single pre-order will be drastically higher. Ultimately, we are making much more profit with a warm audience.
To briefly sum up, it will always be in your best interest to find enough people to back your project before you launch your campaign, simply because it’s going to cost you less overall. Not only that, but thanks to the warm audience you’ve built, you will be fully supported throughout the first few hours of your campaign, and you’ll also be able to attract and convince new backers that haven’t heard from you yet.
Now that you know exactly why finding crowd funders before you launch your campaign is important, it’s now time to discuss where we can find our potential hero’s.
First and foremost, when it comes to crowdfunding, you have to figure out who your target audience is. When done, you can begin to search for them through social media platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, or if they’re gamers, you can even use Discord. Once you have managed to identify the main channel, you’ll want to start interacting with them.
Interaction with potential backers can benefit you, along with your future campaign in a big way. You can use social media platforms to share the link of your landing page, describe more about your project, and offer your crowd the chance to join an email list for special treatment once you have launched your campaign.
What’s more? You can even collect community feedback, in order to drive even more traffic to your campaign page. Based on the type of feedback you receive, you can then create a marketing plan that makes use of paid advertising, like Facebook or Google Ads.
So, there you have it. You now know the steps to take in order to launch a successful crowdfunding campaign.
