You’re about to launch your first crowdfunding campaign, especially focusing on Kickstarter and Indiegogo and you may have thought about starting crowdfunding on both platforms, maybe to get more revenues from different kinds of backers, right? But, is it possible?
Well, technically it is possible! But there are so many points against this decision, mostly because this choice would generate a lot of confusion and potentially, waste of time and energy.
I would definitely not recommend running the same product campaign simultaneously on both platforms and in this article I'll help you understand why.

Preparing and setting up a crowdfunding campaign is really demanding. You basically have to work so hard before the launch, but also while the campaign is live and after the end of it, and remember that there also are updates, page optimizations, comments, FAQs, etc. to consider. Just imagine to double it and having to do all of this simultaneously on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.
Other than that you should keep in mind that being live on two platforms means that you have to follow different rules and regulations, apply and adapt them to your project needs, which will make you confused and discouraged. Both Indiegogo and Kickstarter have a very different ecosystems!
Trust me, you would get no sleep and lose your mind, other than not being able to manage everything perfectly. Would you want your campaign to be poorly organized because of a lack of time and concentration? I think not, so it's better to focus on just one platform and get the best out of it!
Keep in mind that when you will launch your first crowdfunding campaign you'll need to direct backers on it, but if you are running two campaigns at the same time, how would people know on which platform to back? What would be different? That will surely cause confusion, and you don't want to lose any backer!
Other than that, multiple campaigns will sure result in a split on your network, that's because some people will decide to back on a campaign and other people will back the other campaign, this is not something that I would recommend, because this ''people's dispersion'' will mean that there will be fewer people on each single campaign, while it's better to convey a great group of people on a single place in order to boost the algorithm of your campaign.
When you launch a crowdfunding campaign you got to get the best out of it, right?
Especially when we talk about getting attention from the platform itself. Yes, because your campaign might have the chance to go viral (as my client Balldo did) and you'll have a lot of probability of being boosted by the platform itself, resulting in a high engagement and new potential backers, that trust the choice of Kickstarter or Indiegogo team behind the scenes.
In this case, it is time to go big or go home, so it's much better to put all your efforts, time, and money into ONE single platform and see what happens. For example, if you put half the effort into each campaign that will be very unusual to get ranked as ultra-successful campaigns, instead, you would be ranked as mediocre crowdfunding on both platforms. And after all that struggle between one and the other platform that's what you'll get, that's crazy! It is fundamental to rank your project on a crowdfunding platform to get organic traffic. More traffic = more conversions!
So again, my advice is that to focus on one single platform and that will surely reward all the efforts you made!
When you launch a crowdfunding campaign, especially your first one, you should be ready to be fully committed to it, giving all that you can, in the end, it's your dream project we're talking about, right?
I'm sure that my tips made you understand the point here, you would not want to waste the potential of a good crowdfunding campaign, especially regarding a new project in the market. My job here is to make sure that you creators get into the right path, starting to build an effective and successful crowdfunding campaign!
